Microdermabrasion FAQs
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that can improve the texture and appearance of the skin. Review the following frequently asked questions to learn more about the microdermabrasion procedure.
What is microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure that can improve the appearance of the skin by exfoliating the upper layers of the skin and stimulating collagen production. The procedure produces a more even tone and texture, for a healthier, smoother, and more youthful appearance.
Who is a good candidate for microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is appropriate for individuals with fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, acne or acne scars, age spots, and other skin conditions. By accelerating the removal of dead skin cells, the microdermabrasion procedure can be used to effectively address a range of concerns. It can able be performed in conjunction with other treatments, such as BOTOX® Cosmetic or facials, to achieve more noticeable improvement.
How is microdermabrasion performed?
Microdermabrasion is performed using a small wand that gently sprays the skin with a fine mist of exfoliating crystals, which are then suctioned away along with the upper layer of dead skin cells. The treatment is performed in the doctor's office in about an hour, and patients can return to normal activities with little or no downtime following their procedure.
How many sessions will I need?
Although patients will see improvement after just one session, your plastic surgeon will likely recommend between four and six treatments to achieve maximum results. Your treatment plan will be customized to your individual needs and will take into consideration any additional treatment options that can be used to enhance your results.
