Facial Skin Rejuvenation With Laser DOT Therapy

Close up of beautiful woman with perfect skinThe destructive effects of aging can leave the face with fine lines, wrinkles, and brown spots. These symptoms of skin damage can be accelerated by exposure to the sun and environmental elements, sometimes leading to a prematurely aged appearance. Laser Dermal Optical Thermolysis (DOT) therapy can erase these early signs of aging by rejuvenating the skin and restoring a youthful, natural complexion.

What Is Laser DOT Therapy?

Laser DOT therapy uses a SmartXide DOT laser for facial skin rejuvenation. After a topical anesthesia is applied to the treatment area, the laser is moved across the skin. The DOT treatment damages small areas of tissue and stimulates collagen production in those areas without affecting the surrounding skin. This causes a reaction in which the damaged outer skin eventually peels off, revealing healthier, smoother, and more youthful skin. Laser DOT therapy treatments take less than one hour to complete and have minimal downtime or discomfort. Each treatment is customized to the patient’s needs, and many patients need only a single treatment to achieve their desired results.

The Rejuvenating Abilities of Laser DOT Therapy

Laser DOT therapy has powerful rejuvenating abilities that counteract the effects of aging. Men and women may be candidates if they have visible signs of aging or skin damage such as fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, brown spots, freckles, redness, and acne scars. Laser DOT therapy can effectively treat all of these conditions and may be safely used to refresh the skin of the face as well as the neck and hands. With this treatment, patients can successfully gain a smooth, bright, and rejuvenated complexion.

breduc-02a ConradWhile some tween girls want to grow breasts more than anything, some adolescent and adult women just wish their breasts would shrink. Large, heavy breasts can lead to physical, emotional, and social problems of all kinds. If you experience any of the following problems associated with having excessively large breasts, a breast reduction with Dr. Conrad can give you the smaller bustline you desire.

Problems Caused by Oversized Breasts

A woman with oversized breasts may experience numerous problems because of them. These include:

  • Physical Pain: Back aches, neck aches, headaches, and shoulder pain can all occur because of the excess weight pulling downward on the chest.
  • Unwanted Attention: Disproportionately large breasts can attract staring eyes and lead to unwanted attention. Some women choose to avoid certain activities, locations, or individuals to limit emotional triggers.
  • Emotional Problems: Anxiety, low self-confidence, and poor self-image can all result from having excessively large breasts.
  • A Disproportionate Figure: Oversized breasts create an unbalanced body shape, which can cause clothing limitations, poor social perceptions, and low self-image.
  • Premature Sagging: Gravity and the excess weight of large breasts can cause premature breast sagging that ages the appearance.
  • Skin Irritation: Some women with large breasts experience rubbing and chafing underneath the breasts or against tight bra straps.
  • Activity Limitations: The weight of oversized breasts can limit physical activities by making exercise difficult, awkward, slow, uncomfortable, or painful.
  • Clothing Limitations: Some women with excessively large breasts have difficulty shopping for clothing because most clothing items do not fit properly, require tailoring, or fit but do not match their style preferences.

What Breast Reduction Surgery Could Do for You

If you have large breasts and experience any of these problems, especially on a daily basis, breast reduction surgery can help you. A breast reduction would reduce the size of your breasts and alleviate these problems to improve your quality of life. During the procedure, the surgeon removes excess fat, skin, and breast tissue, then reshapes and repositions the remaining breast tissue to create a smaller, shapelier, and more proportionate bustline. After a few weeks, you will be able to return to normal activities with a renewed appreciation for your improved, rebalanced figure. Improving the size of your breasts through breast reduction surgery can ease all of the above symptoms and can help you develop a greater sense of self-confidence and well-being in your daily life.

The two most popular procedures for breast enhancement are breast augmentation and breast lift surgery. Each technique enhances the breasts in a particular way, and women may be candidates for one or the other or even sometimes both. The following describes the type of candidate that is best for each surgical approach. Both of these breast enhancement procedures can provide you with more attractive, firm, and shapely breasts.

Best Candidates for Breast Implants

Breast implants are used to enhance breast size, shape, fullness, and projection. Women who wish their breasts were larger are primary candidates for breast augmentation. If you are a candidate for breast augmentation, your breasts may be underdeveloped or naturally small, especially in proportion to the rest of your body. One breast may be noticeably larger than the other, or your breasts may lack the attractive roundness you desire. You may also feel self-conscious or insecure about the appearance of your breasts. Some common candidates include women whose breasts have lost volume or firmness due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight loss. Breast augmentation is not designed for women whose breasts are sagging.

Best Candidates for a Breast Lift

Breast lift surgery is performed to rejuvenate sagging and misshapen breasts. Women who have suffered the effects of gravity, aging, weight fluctuations, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or genetics and whose breasts are sagging and shapeless are the leading candidates for breast lift surgery. If you are a candidate for a breast lift, your breasts may be elongated or pendulous with stretched skin, enlarged areolas, and nipples that fall below the breast crease. Candidates may be of any age but are often a little older because sagging is usually the result of factors that occur over time. Breast lift surgery can correct breast shape and firmness but is not designed to augment the size or volume of the breasts.

breastlift-01a ConradBest Candidates for a Breast Augmentation With Lift

Some women may identify as candidates for both breast augmentation and breast lift surgery. If this is the case for you, these two procedures can be combined into a breast augmentation with lift. This approach can improve breast size and perkiness at the same time and during a single procedure. You may be a candidate for a breast augmentation with lift if you wish to improve the size, fullness, shape, projection, firmness, and position of your breasts.

If you have excess skin, stubborn fat, or loose abdominal muscles, a tummy tuck can help you achieve a flat and firm abdomen. Based on your unique needs, you may benefit from either a full or a mini tummy tuck. The decision between a full versus mini tummy tuck is personal, and each is best for a certain type of client.

Conrad tummy_tuck-04a

The Full Tummy Tuck

A full tummy tuck corrects the appearance of the upper and lower abdomen. To correct excess skin, persistent fat, and stretched or weakened abdominal muscles, the surgeon places incisions below the lower abdomen and around the navel. Through the incisions, excess fat deposits and sagging skin are removed from the abdomen. The abdominal muscles are tightened, and the skin is pulled taut to create a firmer, better-defined abdominal contour.

  • Best For: A full tummy tuck is best for patients who have problems in their upper and lower abdomen. The best candidates have excess skin and fat and often have a perpetual belly pooch due to distended stomach muscles. Common candidates include women who have had multiple pregnancies and individuals who have undergone moderate to major weight loss.

The Mini Tummy Tuck

A mini tummy tuck corrects the appearance of the lower abdomen only. To eliminate excess skin and fat in the lower belly, the surgeon places a single horizontal incision below the lower abdomen. This incision is smaller than the incision required for a full tummy tuck. After removing fat and skin, the relaxed muscles of the lower abdomen are tightened. The remaining skin is contoured to improve the tone and firmness of the lower abdomen.

  • Best For: A mini tummy tuck is best for patients who have lax skin and excess fat isolated below the belly button. Candidates do not have the overly stretched abdominal muscles and upper abdominal issues that can be found in candidates for a full tummy tuck. Some candidates for a mini tummy tuck may have had one pregnancy or minor weight loss, but will still be generally fit with lax tissue in the lower abdomen. This technique provides more subtle results for patients with more subtle needs.

Portrait of funny, sweet, little, charismatic girl touching her long hair. When it comes to genetic traits, there are good ones and bad ones. Expectant parents may hope to pass on her blue eyes or his fast metabolism, but they may also hope to not pass on her allergies or his big ears. Unfortunately, big ears can be inherited, but their appearance can be surgically improved. Otoplasty can correct and normalize the appearance of the ears to improve facial balance and attractiveness.

Understanding Genetic Traits

Genetic traits are characteristics that are passed down from generation to generation. Every individual has a unique set of genes that determine everything about how the body looks and functions. All of your genes came from your biological parents, which is why family members tend to look alike. However, because there is incredible variation in genetic makeups, you and your siblings could still be quite different. Even if you have 10 siblings, you could be the only one to inherit your mother’s blue eyes. Genes also come in pairs, and if one is dominant, it will override the other. This is why brown eyes are more common than blue eyes— brown eyes are a dominant gene.

Every person will inherit genes from their parents that affect the shape, size, and prominence of their ears. It is not uncommon to see large, protruding ears passed down from parent to child. Prominent ears affect only one or two percent of the human population, which means that affected individuals may stick out in a crowd due to the unusual appearance and size of their ears.

Otoplasty for Large Ears

Otoplasty Patient of Dr. ConradLarge ears can offset facial balance, sometimes so profoundly that the ears are the first thing you notice about the person. Children, especially, are not always understanding of physical differences, which means that many children who inherit big ears might be teased, ridiculed, and bullied by their peers. As a result, these children may become self-conscious and develop psychological or emotional issues. Adults with large ears, even if they are well-adjusted, may find that the size of their ears affects their quality of life. Big ears can be off-putting to potential romantic partners and may also affect other social and work opportunities. By undergoing this procedure, it may aid in self-confidence in your work and personal life.

Otoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that can be performed on children or adults to improve the appearance of the ears. Candidates as young as six or seven who have stable ear cartilage and realistic expectations can undergo a simple surgery to correct this genetic abnormality. In addition to ear size, otoplasty can also correct ear protrusion, deformities, and shape. The results of otoplasty are permanent and can profoundly improve the appearance of your ears.

Just because you inherited your parent’s big ears doesn’t mean you have to be stuck with them forever. Otoplasty can reduce ear size and improve facial balance to give you a more attractive and natural-looking appearance. Our board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Matthew Conrad would be pleased to perform your otoplasty procedure and help you achieve your aesthetic goals. an older woman with a face half is liftedCosmetic surgery is all about timing. Defying time through anti-aging procedures and treatments is best accomplished when the treatments themselves are administered at the right time. The “right time” for you will be when you are ready. Here are a few ways to know whether you are ready for a facelift or alternative anti-aging treatments.

When You’re Ready for a Facelift

You might be ready for a facelift if you have a noticeably aging neck, sagging jowls, deep wrinkles, and displaced fat in your lower face and neck.

Aging Neck

A facelift corrects signs of aging on the neck. While treatments such as skin resurfacing can correct textural irregularities, more severe signs of aging require surgery. For example, if your neck has excess fat, sagging skin, wrinkles, and muscle bands, you could benefit from a facelift. Facelift surgery repositions the tissues of the neck to create a more slender, defined, and smooth neckline.

Sagging Jowls

A facelift can redefine the jawline and reverse sagging jowls. Non-surgical treatments such as dermal fillers can improve wrinkles and enhance facial volume, but they cannot address sagging jowls caused by skin laxity. The facelift procedure trims away excess skin and tightens the tissues to improve the definition of the jawline, neck, and lower face.

Deep Wrinkles in the Lower Face

A facelift can correct deep wrinkles that appear around the cheeks, nose, and mouth. Deep wrinkles in the lower face are caused by skin and tissue laxity. Facelift surgery tightens and lifts the skin of the lower face, eliminating wrinkles as a result.

Displaced Fat in the Face and Neck

A facelift can redistribute or remove displaced fat in the face and neck. When fat pockets begin to shift, they lead to areas of volume loss. Your temples and upper cheeks may develop hollows as the lower cheeks and jowls become puffy and saggy. The facelift procedure redistributes displaced fat and removes excess fat to improve facial definition.

When You’re Ready for Alternative Facial Rejuvenation Treatments

If you are not yet ready for facelift surgery or you don’t yet need surgery, there are alternative treatments for facial rejuvenation.

Moderate to Severe Wrinkles

Many moderate to severe facial wrinkles are not accompanied by pronounced skin laxity. If your skin tone is still relatively elastic, non-surgical treatments such as facial injectables and soft tissue fillers can eliminate facial wrinkles. A variety of treatments can accommodate different anti-aging needs for those who do not yet need facelift surgery.

Moderate Facial Volume Loss

A deflated facial appearance may or may not need surgical correction. If the volume loss is just beginning or is still mild to moderate, dermal fillers may provide enough of an improvement. It is not necessary to undergo surgery before your face has developed major volume loss.

Moderate Submental Fat

Excess submental fat, also known as a “double chin,” can be reduced non-surgically. CoolSculpting® and KYBELLA® injections can effectively eliminate stubborn fat that is resistant to diet and exercise.

When you were a teenager, did you ever go to the salon or the mall with your friends to get makeovers? Do you remember the excitement of seeing a “new you” in the mirror? Makeovers aren’t just for young girls who are exploring new kinds of makeup and hairstyles. Adult women who want to reclaim their youthful bodies can experience the same thrill and excitement by getting a Mommy Makeover, only in this case, the results are all-inclusive and permanent. A Mommy Makeover doesn’t just focus on one area in need of improvement, but rather it focuses on all your trouble areas on your entire body so that you can enhance your whole figure.

Dr. Conrad Mommy makeover caseTone Your Tummy

The plight to obtain a flat and firm abdomen becomes increasingly elusive over time. Pregnancy, aging, weight fluctuations, and genetics can make it difficult to achieve a toned tummy with diet and exercise. A Mommy Makeover with a tummy tuck can treat stubborn belly fat, loose stomach skin, and weakened abdominal muscles to restore a firm and toned waistline. The results of this procedure can make you feel like a whole new woman with a more youthful and slender abdominal contour.

Trim Your Body

It may seem like the battle against stubborn fat is never-ending. Exercise, diet, and your best efforts may never get rid of the persistent fat on your abdomen, thighs, hips, and other areas. Part of the Mommy Makeover experience includes CoolSculpting® or liposuction, which targets these stubborn areas so that you can sculpt your body wherever you need it. Whether it’s your abdomen, upper arms, thighs, hips, calves, neck, or another area, you can trim away excess fat to achieve the toned and trim figure you desire.

Boost Your Breasts

Your breasts may be the area in need of the most help. From volume loss to tissue sagging, the breasts of a 30- or 40-year-old mom rarely look as perky and firm as the breasts of a 20-year-old woman. With your Mommy Makeover, you can get a breast lift and breast augmentation to boost your breasts. These two procedures can improve breast size, shape, firmness, and position so that your figure is more youthful and feminine.

Arm Lift Before and After PhotosThe hardest part of preparing for surgery is not knowing what it will be like. If you’re about to undergo brachioplasty, you may be feeling particularly anxious about the aftermath of your procedure. The following information will help you feel more at ease so that you know what to expect after arm lift surgery.

Recovery

After your surgery, you will be discharged home that same day. Take this opportunity to rest, as your body will be tired from surgery. You should anticipate the possibility of discomfort, bruising, swelling, and redness in your arms, all of which are temporary. By three or four days after your surgery, you may be ready to return to work. Even though you may return to work, your activities should still be limited, with minimal use of your arms for the first one to two weeks as well as limited exercise for up to six weeks. Your surgeon will provide you with detailed instructions to follow during your recovery so that you can have the best recovery experience and minimize your risk of infection or complications.

Activity

During recovery, you should follow all postoperative instructions. Take your medications as prescribed to reduce the risk of infection. The first week of recovery, you will have only limited use of your arms. Be careful not to use excess motion, abrasion, or force on your incisions. Wear comfortable, loose tops that open in the front for the first two weeks so that you will not have to lift your arms above your head. You should wear a compression garment for three to six weeks after recovery to help your arms heal and produce more ideal results. Finally, by six weeks after your procedure, you should be able to resume normal activities with your doctor’s approval.

Discomfort

Discomfort is common early after brachioplasty. You will likely have bruising, swelling, redness, and mild to moderate discomfort during the first week or two of recovery. Oral pain medications can reduce any pain during this time. Following all postoperative activity instructions, including when and how to wear your compression garment and how to treat your incisions, will help minimize your discomfort.

Scarring

Scarring is common after any surgery. You will likely have permanent scarring where the incisions are placed. These incisions are discreetly placed on the inside of the arms so that they will not be noticeable during most activities. Some patients need longer incisions than others, and these patients are likely to have increased scarring. Your surgeon will take great care when suturing the incisions to achieve the best scar possible. Most patients feel that any degree of scarring is preferable to sagging upper arm skin. By treating your incisions carefully and taking advantage of tools such as embrace® Active Scar Defense, you may be able to minimize your scars. Limit sun exposure to the area so that the scar tissue will not darken unfavorably. As with all scars, any visible scarring will likely fade over time.

Results

While you will see some initial results shortly after your surgery, they will be temporarily obstructed by swelling. Usually by around six weeks after surgery, most of your major swelling will have subsided and you will be able to see your results. The removal of tissue through brachioplasty is permanent, meaning you can enjoy your new upper arm contours for many years as long as you maintain a stable body weight and live a healthy lifestyle. Exercise will keep your muscle tone strong so that your arms remain well-defined, and it will also help prevent future weight gain. With your newly improved upper arm contours, you may feel more self-confident and have a more positive self-image. You will likely feel as though you can finally wear certain clothing items (e.g., swimsuits, sleeveless tops, and fitted sleeves) that you previously avoided. Arm lift surgery improves the contour of the upper arms and can boost your image in the eyes of others and yourself.
Dr. Matthew Conrad is a board-certified plastic surgeon who can perform arm lift surgery to improve the definition, tone, and contours of your upper arm. Before and After OtoplastyDid you know that well over one million American men underwent surgical or non-surgical cosmetic procedures in the last year alone*? Plastic surgery can enhance your appearance and give you a competitive edge in your social and work life. Here are eight reasons to improve your appearance with male plastic surgery procedures.

1. Reduce Facial Aging

Is your forehead lined with heavy wrinkles? Do you have deep hollows beneath your eyes? Do people around you frequently comment that you look tired, angry, or sad? Wrinkles and hollows are signs of aging skin and can be corrected with non-surgical treatments. Dermal fillers and BOTOX® Cosmetic can reduce facial wrinkles and lines so that your face looks smooth, young, relaxed, and refreshed.

2. Improve Sagging Eyelids and Bags Under the Eyes

Excess lines or skin above the eyes is caused by sagging upper eyelid skin. Bags under the eyes are caused by displaced fat. Both issues detract from your appearance and can make you look significantly older than you feel. You can recapture your youthful appearance from the glory days with eyelid surgery to tighten the tissues of your eyelids and smooth away wrinkles and bags.

3. Eliminate Jowls, Wrinkles, and Sagging in the Lower Face and Neck

Men and women both suffer the effects of aging. Over time, gravity can take a toll and leave you with heavy jowls, folds, sagging, a double chin, and visible muscle bands. A facelift with a neck lift can eliminate these issues to improve definition in your jawline, neck, and face. After this surgery, you could look as much as five to 10 years younger.

4. Get Rid of Stubborn Fat

A lot of men are dismayed when they discover that their high school days of gorging on pizza and junk food without gaining weight are gone. Over time, the metabolism slows down and the body tends to pack on the pounds. With procedures like tummy tuck surgery, liposuction, and CoolSculpting®, men can get rid of stubborn fat. These procedures target fat deposits to restore a leaner and more toned figure.

5. Flatten a Beer Belly

The abdomen is one of the main fat deposits in the body. If yours has developed a bit of a paunch, or even if it has turned into a full-blown beer belly, tummy tuck surgery may be able to help you. This surgery can eliminate stubborn belly fat and tighten your core muscles and sagging skin to give you a flatter, more masculine abdomen.

6. Masculinize Your Chest

Some men have overdeveloped breast tissue or excess fat in the chest that gives them the appearance of male breasts. This disconcerting condition is known as gynecomastia and can cause embarrassment and discomfort. Male breast reduction is an excellent procedure that can remove the excess breast tissue and fat to permanently improve your chest contours.

7. Tighten Sagging Skin

Aging and gravity both take a toll on the skin, causing it to sag almost anywhere on the body. Whether you have sagging skin on your belly, arms, thighs, or elsewhere, there’s a procedure for you. Some of the most popular surgeries that tighten sagging skin are tummy tuck surgery and arm lift surgery.

8. Enhance Facial Features

For some men, it’s not a battle against aging but rather a battle against genetics. For instance, if you have a naturally weak, recessed chin, you may have a harder time presenting yourself with masculine confidence. A chin implant can add definition to your jawline to improve your facial structure and portray a more confident look. Likewise, rhinoplasty (one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures among men) can redefine your nose for better facial balance and attractiveness. Finally, otoplasty can make large ears smaller or make ears that stick out lie flatter against the head. These procedures can enhance your facial features to improve your appearance.

Men have as much to gain from plastic surgery as women. If you would like to learn more about procedures that could improve your appearance, request your consultation with Dr. Matthew Conrad. Call (316) 681-2227 or contact us online to get in touch with us today.

Once you’ve decided you want breast implants, there are a lot of additional choices you must make. These “7 S’s of Breast Augmentation” will help you keep track of the most important points when you are preparing for your breast augmentation.

Beast Augmentation Before and After Photos

1. Silicone vs. Saline

All breast implants have a silicone shell, but the substance inside the shell is either saline or silicone. Silicone implants are best for women who are more concerned about a natural look and feel, implant longevity, and minimizing the chances of rupture or rippling. Dr. Conrad is pleased to offer Sientra® High-Strength Cohesive Silicone Gel breast implants, which have even greater durability and reduced chance of rippling than traditional silicone implants.

2. Size

“One size fits all” is certainly untrue with breast implants. Implant size is measured in volume (cubic centimeters). When choosing your size, be sure to consider both your preferences and your anatomy. If you want a subtle or natural enhancement, choose smaller implants. If you want a bold change, choose larger implants. If you have naturally small breasts, smaller or moderately sized implants may produce the best aesthetic results. Dr. Conrad will help you determine which implant size best meets your anatomic needs and personal preferences.

3. Shape and Profile

Implants can be anatomically shaped (fuller at the bottom) or round (uniform fullness). However, the shape you choose may not actually matter in terms of the results, as recent research has suggested that not even surgeons can tell breast implant shape apart after surgery. What may be more important is the profile of your implants. High profile implants have a narrow base with significant forward projection, while low profile implants have a wide base and little forward projection. Your anatomy should be the biggest factor here, as the wrong profile selection could look very unnatural. For instance, if your chest wall is wide and your breasts are spaced far apart, high profile implants could make it look like your breasts are stuck or glued onto your chest. Conversely, if you have a narrow chest wall, low profile implants could have lateral overflow.

4. Surface Texture

Breast implants can have either a smooth or irregular texture. The key argument in favor of textured implants is that they may have a reduced rate of capsular contracture because they bind to the breast tissue and are less likely to shift or rotate. Arguments in favor of smooth implants are that they are more affordable and have a lower risk of rippling.

5. Surgical Incision

Your surgical incision with Dr. Conrad could be either the inframammary incision or the periareolar incision. The inframammary incision is below the breasts along the crease. Even though it can leave noticeable scarring, this incision is the most popular choice because it has the least amount of risk and does not limit implant selection. The periareolar incision goes around the outside of the areola, usually just around the lower edge, and it leaves a smaller scar that blends with the edge of the areola. This incision type carries a slightly higher risk and may limit implant selection for women with smaller areolas.

6. Submuscular vs. Subglandular Placement

Some surgeons offer either submuscular or subglandular implant placement. With subglandular placement, the implant is inserted below the breast tissue but above the pectoral muscle. This technique leads to an easier recovery, but it offers less tissue support and carries greater overall risk. Dr. Conrad performs only submuscular implant placement, in which the implants are placed beneath the pectoral muscles, because it has less risk, produces better support, and yields the best results.

7. Surgeon

When selecting your surgeon, choose one that is certified by the American Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. You should also choose a surgeon with extensive experience who can show you plenty of before and after pictures of his patients. It is important that you and your surgeon have a good rapport so you know that your surgeon understands your desires. Be sure to ask plenty of questions and meet with multiple surgeons before making your final decision. Dr. Conrad is a board-certified, talented, and experienced breast surgeon who would be more than happy to help you reach your beauty ideals.
