Earlobe Gauge Repair
Earlobe gauging has existed in various cultures around the world for thousands of years. Beginning with a simple piercing in the ear, different sized gauge plugs are then placed in the earlobes to stretch them over extended periods of time. This excessive stretching distorts the tissue of the earlobes, eventually leaving them with a hole that is stretched out permanently.
In the last few years, ear gauging has also become popular among men and women in the United States. However, like many trends, most people tend to grow out of this fad as they get older. As people who once had gauges in their ears wish to restore a normal look to their earlobes, Dr. Matthew Conrad regularly performs earlobe repair surgery to correct the appearance of stretched and torn earlobes.
Repairing Gauged Earlobes
Although repairing gauged earlobes is a specialized process, it can typically be done in less than an hour. The procedure itself is performed on an outpatient basis with local anesthesia. After an incision is made that extends from the bottom of the stretched hole to the outer edge, surface tissue inside of the gauged earlobe is removed. To close the hole, the earlobe tissue is moved forward and closed with sutures.
Recovery and Results
Patients can return to work immediately following surgery as there is no downtime associated with earlobe repair. There is little to no pain during your recovery and any sensitivity you may feel can be alleviated with an over-the-counter medication. You will be prescribed an antibiotic to protect you from infection, and sutures will be removed after five to seven days. No earrings should be worn for six weeks following your surgery. The incisions will fade as they heal, and the remaining scars will be very inconspicuous. This procedure produces a great improvement to the appearance of the ears and patients are usually very happy with their results.

According to TIME Magazine’s list of the Top Ten Commonly Broken New Year’s Resolutions, people seem to struggle most with losing weight, quitting smoking, saving money, and reducing stress. With your dream plastic surgery procedure as your motivation, you would be surprised how easy it is to achieve these difficult resolutions. Here’s how:
1. Lose weight
Many people are not aware that liposuction and tummy tuck procedures are not intended for weight loss. Patients who maintain a healthy weight for their height often experience the best results with these procedures, which is why not everyone is a candidate. Especially if you primarily have visceral fat in the abdomen (which makes your stomach appear very round and hard), a reputable physician will likely discourage you from this type of surgery. Since visceral fat is located deep within the abdomen and surrounds vital organs, it cannot be reached with liposuction or tummy tuck surgery. Patients who first lose the weight find that these procedures make a fantastic reward for working hard to get healthy. With liposuction or abdominoplasty, they can achieve the healthy body they have always dreamed of, both inside and out.
2. Quit Smoking
Study after study has indicated that smoking greatly influences surgical outcome and recovery. It constricts blood vessels, which can lead to a longer recovery period, wound separation, and raised scars. Nicotine can cause anesthesia complications, which can lead to very serious side-effects, including heart attack and stroke. Those who are considering plastic surgery must not have smoked for at least two weeks prior to their procedure. Consider using surgery as a motivation to quit the habit for good!
3. Save Money
What makes a “good deal” good is when it’s worth it to you. Dr. Conrad offers various financing options that will make the procedure of your dreams more affordable. With the cost of your surgery on the horizon, odds are you will be all the more motivated to pinch pennies elsewhere.
4. Be Less Stressed
For many people, their wrinkled skin, sagging breasts, or protruding abdomen can become something they think of and worry about on a daily basis. They may even avoid social events and miss out on important activities because of the way they look. This unhealthy way of thinking can cause anxiety that will negatively impact their quality of life. Scheduling a consultation can help ease patients’ stress with the knowledge that there is a solution to their concern, and soon their needs will be met.

For many people, the holiday season is the best time of the year. In the past, perhaps you purchased overpriced facial rejuvenation creams but saw little, if any, improvement to fine lines and wrinkles. To ensure you look your best this season, why not undergo a simple injectable treatment with one of our FDA-approved fillers? Our Wichita practice provides many men and women with the injectables they need to put their best face forward for the holidays.
As the most popular injectable in the world, BOTOX® Cosmetic is used to reduce facial wrinkles that have been caused by years of repeated muscle contractions. The areas most often treated with Botox® include forehead wrinkles, deep creases between the eyes, and crow’s feet.
We also carry soft tissue fillers to restore volume to specific areas of the face while diminishing facial wrinkles, folds, and even scars.
Fillers can immediately provide fullness to the cheeks, nasolabial area, and the lips. Of the many fillers available in cosmetic surgery, we offer Restylane®, JUVÉDERM®, Prevelle™, RADIESSE®, Sculptra® Aesthetic, and BELOTERO BALANCE®. All of these popular fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid, and since this substance is naturally found in the body, patients don’t have to worry about allergic reactions occurring from treatment.
The beauty of injectable treatments is that they can be performed in less than an hour and produce results that will still be apparent long after after the holiday season is over.
With the holidays already upon us, there is no time to spare. Contact our Kansas practice today by calling (316) 681-2227 or feel free to fill out our online consultation form. Dr. Matthew Conrad is a board-certified plastic surgeon, and he is dedicated to providing you with the best face to put forward this season.
We’ve all seen it … plastic surgery gone bad. From giant duck-like lips to faces that appear permanently surprised, plastic surgery results can occasionally look fake. Some people are hesitant to undergo plastic surgery because they are afraid they will end up looking overdone and artificial like certain celebrities who have gone overboard with different plastic surgery procedures. However, many people do not realize that these are rare cases, and with the right plastic surgeon and the right techniques, beautiful and natural-looking results can be achieved.
Plastic surgery should be used to enhance a person’s appearance rather than completely change it. To avoid overdone results, the surgeon should make only the necessary alterations to provide improvement to areas of the face or body where the patient is dissatisfied. While facial surgeries can provide excellent overall improvement to the signs of aging, there are also many non-surgical treatments available for patients who desire facial rejuvenation, but do not have a significant amount of sagging skin and wrinkles.
Dr. Matthew Conrad offers non-surgical injectable treatments for facial rejuvenation. BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® are extremely effective for reducing the appearance of dynamic facial lines and wrinkles by relaxing the underlying muscles. Dermal fillers, such as Restylane-L®, Perlane-L®, and JUVÉDERM® XC are excellent options for increasing volume and fullness in the face and reducing the appearance of facial wrinkles, folds, and scars. These fillers can also be used to enhance the size and shape of the lips. For facial fat loss, Dr. Conrad offers Sculptra® Aesthetic that stimulates your body to produce collagen to provide the fullness your face has lost due to aging or weight loss.
In addition, Dr. Conrad offers laser skin rejuvenation with DOT (Dermal Optical Thermolysis) therapy, which is a procedure that uses a laser system to smooth wrinkles and reduce the appearance of sun-damaged or acne-scarred skin, and this effective procedure requires only minimal downtime. For patients who require more extensive revisions, our Wichita practice offers facial rejuvenation surgeries, such as a facelift, eyelid lift (blepharoplasty), neck lift, brow lift, and lip augmentation. Dr. Conrad will discuss all of your options and recommend the best procedures to give you the results you desire. Best of all, Dr. Conrad uses subtle techniques to achieve natural-looking results.
Dr. Matthew Conrad is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon with the skills and experience needed to produce youthful and natural-looking results. We all know how self conscious kids can be about the way they look. Some are concerned about their acne, some worry about their weight, and others are self-conscious about a particular facial feature, such as their nose or ears. When a child is self conscious about their ears, they often do things to conceal them…they may wear their hair long over their ears to cover them, or they may refuse to pull their hair back or wear a hat because they are self-conscious that their ears will protrude more than they should. Thankfully, there is a simple and quick procedure that can fix protruding ears.
Otoplasty is a cosmetic surgery that can be performed on children and teenagers. In fact, The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) stated that otoplasty was the most performed procedure last year for individuals who were eighteen and younger.
Before an otoplasty procedure can be performed at our Wichita practice, there are certain guidelines that should be met.
Parental and Surgeon Consent
Children and teenagers under the age of eighteen must have the approval of their parent or guardian before otoplasty can be performed. Once this is confirmed, our board-certified plastic surgeon will decide if an otoplasty is suitable for the child or teenager at the present time.
Physically and Mentally Prepared
For most people, the ears are fully-grown by the time they are about six years of age. However, for otoplasty to be performed it is usually more important that patients are mentally mature enough to understand that there is a recovery process involved after surgery is complete. Otoplasty is a very effective procedure, but it is essential that children have realistic expectations about the results and want to undergo the procedure for their own well-being.
Once a child has been properly evaluated and deemed a good candidate for otoplasty, the surgery can be scheduled. Aside from reducing the amount of teasing that was experienced before surgery, otoplasty is also beneficial by putting the ears in better harmony with the rest of the face, as well as improving the patient’s overall self-esteem.
If you or your child think that an otoplasty procedure can be beneficial, feel free to contact our practice to schedule a consultation today. Call (316) 681-2227 or fill out our online contact form. Dr. Matthew Conrad is board certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) and has helped patients of all ages improve the appearance of their ears. He is dedicated to providing each of his patients with the best outcome possible and looks forward to meeting you soon.
Fall is finally here. The leaves are beginning to change, the weather is a little cooler, and the vast majority of us are relieved now that bathing suit season is over. Social gatherings no longer involve showing more skin than you’re actually comfortable revealing. Hallelu — wait. Before we all start to rejoice, there is one important thing to remember: the holiday season is coming.
In just a couple of months, most of us will be attending parties, seeing long-lost relatives, and trying to squeeze into last year’s party dress. Don’t get too comfortable in those new fall boots. ‘Tis the season to prepare!
The good news is looking your best with cosmetic surgery has never been easier or faster. Some of the most requested procedures in the fall are non-invasive and require little to no recovery time. In fact, BOTOX® and injectable fillers are commonly referred to as “the lunch hour facelift” because they can be done so quickly. Many men and women come to our Wichita office a few days before an event to refine crow’s feet, smile lines, and forehead wrinkles. Patients are excited to show off their well-rested, more youthful-looking appearance just a few days after treatment.
Many find that fall is the best season to get plastic surgery because:
1. Bandages or compression garments can be easily hidden under layers of clothing
2. There are fewer social gatherings to attend than in the summer or winter
3. Christmas break allows plenty of time for recovery from invasive procedures
If you prefer the slenderizing results of surgically invasive body contouring procedures, such as a tummy tuck or liposuction, two weeks out of the fall season will allow plenty of time for recovery. Teachers or those who experience slower business during the holidays often get these procedures done over an extended break. Many also treat themselves to a breast augmentation once they receive their year-end bonus check. It’s the perfect excuse to get what was really on your Christmas list!
Now that the best season to get plastic surgery has arrived, grab a pumpkin spiced latte and visit board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Matthew Conrad at his Wichita, Kansas practice for a consultation. He will evaluate your health history along with the results you desire to provide a customized surgical treatment plan. To schedule an appointment, fill out our online contact form or call (316) 681-2227 today. Experience results that will last for many seasons to come!
Bras come in all colors, sizes and materials. From luxurious and enhancing to plain and practical, they can make you feel sexy and provide support when you need it most. Although it makes sense to mark a day of celebration for such a close and supportive member of women’s lives, BRA Day is not really all about the bra.
Many women who must undergo a mastectomy or lumpectomy for cancer treatment do not opt to receive reconstructive surgery to restore the shape of their breasts. This is likely because less than 23 percent of those eligible for treatment are informed of their post-mastectomy options.
Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day (BRA Day) is an initiative designed to improve this statistic by raising awareness.
Did you know?
Since 1998, the Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act has given every woman the right to choose breast reconstruction and have the procedure fully paid for by her insurance carrier.
Unlike other events occurring during Breast Cancer Awareness month, which raise funds and awareness for cancer detection and prevention, BRA Day aims to “Close the Loop on Breast Cancer” by providing women with information about breast reconstruction surgery after mastectomy. It occurs annually on the third Wednesday of October. This year, BRA Day will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 16, 2013.
Many women do not realize the impact that mastectomy surgery can potentially have on their confidence and quality of life. Although cancer removal is something worth celebrating, many women wake up from mastectomy surgery and are saddened by the realization that a central part of their femininity is missing. Breast reconstruction allows women to move forward from their journey through cancer with a renewed sense of wellbeing that can make them feel like a whole woman again.
Women interested in beginning reconstruction at the time of mastectomy must ask their breast surgeon to make a referral to see a plastic surgeon. As a breast specialist, Dr. Conrad can answer your questions about breast reconstruction surgery and help you decide if the procedure is right for you. The type of reconstruction you undergo will depend on your individual needs, anatomy, and previous treatments. If only one breast is affected, it alone may be reconstructed. A breast lift, breast reduction, or breast augmentation may be recommended for the opposite breast to ensure symmetry.
If you have recently been treated for or diagnosed with breast cancer, schedule a consultation with board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Matthew H. Conrad to discuss your post-mastectomy options. Please fill out our contact form or call (316) 681-2227 today.
