How do I select a plastic surgeon?

Your surgeon should be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, indicating that he or she has completed advanced training in aesthetic plastic surgery. In addition, it is important to select a doctor who has experience performing the procedure you are interested in. Ask how many procedures like your own the doctor has performed and ask to see before and after photos. You may also request references from the doctor to speak with former patients who have undergone the same procedure. During your initial consultation, the doctor should answer all your questions openly and make you feel comfortable and confident in your decision.

Is plastic surgery safe?

Yes, plastic surgery is safe, but it is important to understand that all surgical procedures involve some risk. The best way to avoid complications is to select a qualified doctor with experience performing the plastic surgery procedure you are interested in. It is also essential that patients follow all pre- and post-operative instructions to prepare for surgery and properly care for their body after the procedure.

How much pain and recovery time should I expect?

It is impossible to predict how much pain and recovery time each individual will experience. Every person responds to surgery differently. Your doctor can advise you of the typical pain and recovery time involved with the specific procedure you are interested in and provide you with medication to minimize discomfort. For example, major surgical procedures like abdominoplasty are often associated with longer downtime than less invasive procedures, like a breast lift. During your consultation, your doctor can review the procedure with you to ensure you have reasonable expectations.

What about scars?

Although each person will heal differently, plastic surgeons are often able to minimize the appearance of post-operative scars by carefully placing incisions in natural body contours. During your consultation, your doctor can discuss any concerns you may have and provide you with reasonable expectations to ensure you are satisfied with the results of your procedure.

What about non-surgical options?

There are a number of non-surgical options available to help enhance skin’s tone and texture, diminish wrinkles and scars, and improve overall appearance. Dr. Matt Conrad can determine if treatments like BOTOX® Cosmetic and soft tissue fillers are appropriate for you. Additionally, complete aesthetician services are provided at our office by Patta Miller, who can help patients explore other non-surgical treatments for a more youthful and refreshed appearance.

How long do injectable fillers last?

Typically, injectable fillers last from three to six months and effectively improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles for a smoother and more attractive appearance. They can be used alone or in combination with other non-surgical options for even more noticeable results. Injectables can also be used to add volume to the lips. Dr. Conrad can help you determine which fillers are best suited to your individual goals and advise you of an appropriate treatment plan.

How much does plastic surgery cost?

The price of plastic surgery procedures varies, but most patients recognize the cost as a permanent investment in their appearance and confidence. Although not typically covered by your health insurance, some procedures may be eligible for partial or full coverage. During your consultation, our staff can help you determine what coverage to expect. In addition, our practice provides a number of payment methods and financing plans to help make plastic surgery an affordable option for most patients.

Am I a good candidate for plastic surgery?

Individuals in good general health who have reasonable expectations about their appearance and goals are often the best candidates for plastic surgery. It is important to be completely open with your doctor during your initial consultation so that he or she can accurately assess your physical and mental condition and determine your candidacy for plastic surgery.
