Am I Ready for a Facelift?

Defying time through anti-aging procedures and treatments is best accomplished when the treatments themselves are administered at the right time. The “right time” for you will be when you are ready. Here are a few ways to know whether you are ready for a facelift or alternative anti-aging treatments.

When You’re Ready for a Facelift

You might be ready for a facelift if you have a noticeably aging neck, sagging jowls, deep wrinkles, and displaced fat in your lower face and neck.

Aging Neck

A facelift corrects signs of aging on the neck. While treatments such as skin resurfacing can correct textural irregularities, more severe signs of aging require surgery. For example, if your neck has excess fat, sagging skin, wrinkles, and muscle bands, you could benefit from a facelift. Facelift surgery repositions the tissues of the neck to create a more slender, defined, and smooth neckline.

Sagging Jowls

A facelift can redefine the jawline and reverse sagging jowls. Non-surgical treatments such as dermal fillers can improve wrinkles and enhance facial volume, but they cannot address sagging jowls caused by skin laxity. The facelift procedure trims away excess skin and tightens the tissues to improve the definition of the jawline, neck, and lower face.

Deep Wrinkles in the Lower Face

A facelift can correct deep wrinkles that appear around the cheeks, nose, and mouth. Deep wrinkles in the lower face are caused by skin and tissue laxity. Facelift surgery tightens and lifts the skin of the lower face, eliminating wrinkles as a result.

Displaced Fat in the Face and Neck

A facelift can redistribute or remove displaced fat in the face and neck. When fat pockets begin to shift, they lead to areas of volume loss. Your temples and upper cheeks may develop hollows as the lower cheeks and jowls become puffy and saggy. The facelift procedure redistributes displaced fat and removes excess fat to improve facial definition.

When You’re Ready for Alternative Facial Rejuvenation Treatments

If you are not yet ready for facelift surgery or you don’t yet need surgery, there are alternative treatments for facial rejuvenation.

Moderate to Severe Wrinkles

Many moderate to severe facial wrinkles are not accompanied by pronounced skin laxity. If your skin tone is still relatively elastic, non-surgical treatments such as facial injectables and soft tissue fillers can eliminate facial wrinkles. A variety of treatments can accommodate different anti-aging needs for those who do not yet need facelift surgery.

Moderate Facial Volume Loss

A deflated facial appearance may or may not need surgical correction. If the volume loss is just beginning or is still mild to moderate, dermal fillers may provide enough of an improvement. It is not necessary to undergo surgery before your face has developed major volume loss.

Moderate Submental Fat

Excess submental fat, also known as a “double chin,” can be reduced non-surgically. CoolSculpting® and KYBELLA® injections can effectively eliminate stubborn fat that is resistant to diet and exercise.
