Neck Lift

No one wants to have a “turkey wattle,” “double chin,” or sagging jowls, but aging, gravity, and environmental factors can detract from the youthful contours of the lower face and neck. Neck lift surgery creates a defined, youthful neck and jawline by targeting loose, sagging, or full tissues along the jaw, under the chin, and in the neck.

A neck lift can correct some or all of the following:

  • Wrinkled, sagging skin on the neck
  • A loose platysma muscle that creates the appearance of “bands” in the neck
  • Fat beneath the chin that appears as a “double chin”
  • Sagging tissue along the jawline that creates jowls

Good Candidates for Neck Lift Surgery

Ideal candidates for neck lift surgery are in good health overall and have realistic expectations about the results that can be achieved. During your consultation in Wichita, you and Dr. Conrad will discuss your goals to determine whether a neck lift is right for you. A neck lift is often performed with a facelift to keep the face in harmony and balance.

The Procedure

Neck lift surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure with the patient under general anesthesia. Dr. Conrad makes tiny, inconspicuous incisions behind the ears. An incision under the chin may be used to remove excess fat from the area. Dr. Conrad repositions the underlying tissues, which may include tightening the platysma muscle. He then redrapes the skin over the more youthful contours and removes any excess skin before closing the incisions.

The neck lift procedure is often combined with other facial procedures such as facelift, brow lift, or eyelid lift surgery for more comprehensive facial rejuvenation.

Recovery

After surgery, you will be moved to a recovery area to be monitored by specially trained medical professionals. You will likely experience temporary side effects including swelling, bruising, and soreness. Pain medication will be prescribed to control any associated discomfort. Most patients can return to work and normal activities in one to two weeks. Dr. Conrad will give you specific recovery instructions to follow to ensure you have the safest and most efficient recovery possible.
