Hair Transplantation in Wichita, KS

Hair loss can occur for a number of reasons such as aging, genetics, or changes in hormone levels. While this condition primarily affects men, it can also affect women. When hair loss occurs, Dr. Matthew Conrad and his staff in Wichita offer hair transplantation. Through the use of revolutionary techniques, this procedure offers you the most natural, long-lasting hair restoration results so that you look and feel refreshed and youthful.

Men and women who are experiencing unwanted hair loss may be candidates for hair transplantation. Qualified candidates must still have healthy hair growth at the back and sides of the head; Dr. Conrad will use donor hair from these locations for the procedure. You should also have no major health complications that are causing your hair loss, and you should have realistic expectations about the results of the procedure. When you come in for your consultation, we will assess your head and scalp to determine the extent of your hair loss and how best to meet your desired results.

Hair Transplantation Procedure

To conduct the procedure, Dr. Conrad’s team utilizes the follicular unit extraction and transfer technique. This revolutionary technique for hair transplantation strategically uses your existing hair to restore natural hair patterns to thinning or balding areas on your head. First, we will shave the hair at the back of your scalp. Next, we will carefully remove precise follicular units of hair from extraction sites that will be hidden when the shaved hair regrows. Then, with precision and artistry, the grafts will be inserted with microforceps into precise locations on the head to recreate a natural-looking hairline. Finally, larger hair grafts will be placed behind the hairline to add thickness and density. The whole procedure is performed on an outpatient basis using local anesthesia.

Hair Transplantation Recovery/Results

After the procedure, you may experience some temporary mild discomfort or tenderness on your scalp. The majority of patients are able to resume most normal activities within a few days after the procedure. To ensure the best recovery, follow Dr. Conrad’s instructions. Over the next few weeks and months, you can expect much of the newly grafted hair to fall out. This is due to the fact that it takes the hair grafts some time to firmly anchor themselves in their new location. Take care when washing or grooming your hair during this time, and use only a mild shampoo. The hair grafts will typically begin to regrow after three to four months at the rate of about half an inch per month. Some individuals may need additional surgery if hair loss continues to progress after the initial hair transplantation procedure. The results of hair transplantation take time, but this procedure can successfully restore a fuller head of hair to improve your look. During your consultation, we will discuss these things with you in greater detail and answer any questions that you may have.
